Family fun comes in many fascinating forms and surprising spots in Buffalo Niagara. Whether it’s watching river otters romp in their way cool pool at the Buffalo Zoo, getting soaked yourself on a summertime excursion on a Whirlpool Jet Boat Tour or exploring the amazing collection of exotic plants at the Botanical Gardens, fun is easily found for you and your family.

The Buffalo Museum of Science is the place to be for families in 2010 as two amazing exhibits roll into town. Sesame Street Presents: The Body will be on exhibit from February 27th to June 9th, followed quickly by robotic dinosaurs from June 26th through October 10th.

The Buffalo Zoo has seen some exciting additions to its lions and tigers and bears in recent years, including M&T Bank Rainforest Falls, an enclosed, year-round exhibit that brings visitors up close to vampire bats, anacondas, anteaters, piranhas and much more. 2010 will see the re-creation of a mid-19th century farm on the grounds of the Zoo. This homestead will feature a petting area with heritage breeds of domestic animals and include a replica of an Erie Canal lock and canalway.

At the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park visitors are invited to tour the decks and hulls of a guided missile cruiser, destroyer and WWII submarine. It’s a hands-on experience like no other!

Spark your kids’ creativity, curiosity and imagination at Western New York’s only museum designed just for kids, Explore & More Children’s Museum, or take them to the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum  where they can ride an old-fashioned carrousel in the world's only carrousel museum.

For an exhilarating ride into the Niagara River gorge try a Whirlpool Jet Boat tour. It’s a 45-minute ride on the wild side for the whole family from May through October.

If water sports are your thing, take your family for a cruise around Erie Canal Harbor with a rental from Buffalo Harbor Kayaks. Glide past the 1833 Buffalo Lighthouse, the historic grain elevators and the General Mills plant where most of the world's Cheerios are produced. That delicious aroma is the smell of the "O" shaped cereal being made.

BUFFALO AND ERIE COUNTY BOTANICAL GARDENS (South Park Conservatory)

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens is the product of three extraordinary visionaries: landscaping architect Fredrick Law Olmsted, architects Lord & Burnham and botanist / plant-explorer John F. Cowell. The tri-domed glass, wood and steel building was designed by the premier conservatory designers of the time: Lord & Burnham, Co. from New York's Hudson Valley. When it was built in 1897-1899, it was one of the largest public greenhouses in the country.

Buffalo ComedySportz

Similar to, 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?', but set up like a sporting event, Singing of the National Anthem starts off every match. A ComedySportz match features two teams of improvisational 'actletes' competing for laughs and points based on audience suggestions. A referee keeps things moving along and calls penalties and fouls. An average of seven to ten Improv games are played during each match. Every show is different with different players, different games, and different audiences supplying new suggestions. The fans judge the scenes and games and ultimately decide the winners and losers. ComedySportz also asks willing volunteers to join in on the onstage fun for a game or two each match.

BUFFALO MUSEUM OF SCIENCE

Dedicated to the study and interpretation of the natural and physical sciences, the Buffalo Museum of Science's extensive collections and artifacts represent all facets of the natural world with an emphasis on Western New York as well as man-made objects spanning the globe. Anchoring Buffalo's East Side in Olmsted-designed Martin Luther King, Jr. Park since 1929, the museum presents a wide variety of programs and services for children, teachers, families, adults and community organizations throughout the year. The museum also operates Tifft Nature Preserve in South Buffalo, a 264-acre wetland preserve on reclaimed former industrial land, and seasonally sponsors archaeological exploration at the Hiscock Site in nearby Genesee County, NY, one of North America's richest Ice Age sites. NOTE: The museum will be open seven days a week from 10am - 4pm, with the first Monday of each month being reserved for museum members. Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus

The Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus consists of one hundred and forty auditioned voices made up of skilled and committed singers who continually develop and pursue its 72-year tradition of excellence. ERIE CANAL DISCOVERY CENTER

A new state-of-the-art interpretive center for the Erie Canal, focusing on the role that Lockport played in canal history, and featuring a 20' x 13' Raphael Beck mural, "The Opening of the Erie Canal, October 26, 1825." This beautiful floor to ceiling mural depicts the celebration surrounding then NY Governor Dewitt Clinton's ceremonial first passage through the now famous "Flight of Five" locks at Lockport to officially open the Erie Canal. Individuals from the painting "come to life" with the assistance of virtual-reality, through computer kiosks in the Center. A multidimensional orientation film transports the visitor back in time onboard a recreation of the packet boat Western Comet. Additional audiovisual stations such as the "Hard Rock Canal" and "Work the Lock" allow guests the hands-on opportunity to view the dolomite rock wall at Lockport and to navigate a model ship through an actual working series of locks. The life and times of "canawlers," people who lived and worked on the canal, as well as "canal kids," are depicted in exhibits that feature the latest technology in communication "sound-sticks." The National Park Service rounds out the many displays with their own description of the National Heritage Corridor.

FREEDOM CROSSING: THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD IN GREATER NIAGARA

Ira G. Ross Aerospace Museum

The Aerospace Museum is one of three cultural/tourist attractions clustered at Buffalo's developing waterfront and is located in HSBC Arena, behind the Sabres Store with the its entrance on Seymour Knox III Plaza, at the foot of Main Street. The museum tells the story of Western New York's unique aviation and aerospace heritage through the acquisition, preservation and display of aviation artifacts. Lasertron

Lockport Cave & Underground Boat Ride

An interesting, 70 minue guided historical tour through America's past. You will explore the historic Erie Canal Locks 67-71 contructed in 1838, veiw ruins from an early industrail age, and your guide will rock in the mid-1800's, viewing stalactites, flowstone and other geological formations. You will also see artifacts left behind by the men who build the tunnel in the early days of the Erie Canal. Then you will ride in and underground boat.
