Greater than your average library! The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library has been serving the community with library services since 1836, making ours one of the oldest libraries in the nation. The Library is unusually rich with its Rare Books & Special Collections, including peerless first edition books and manuscripts, local history and genealogy resources, music, maps, and prints. Outstanding items from the collections are showcased in exhibits throughout the year. A wide variety of free programs supporting exhibit themes, authors, literacy, community issues, and hands-on activities are offered for families, adults, and children – complete schedule can be found on the library website.

Located at the heart of Downtown Buffalo at Lafayette Square, the Central Library is the hub of a 37-site library system that reaches across Erie County. Along with frequent programs and ongoing collection-based exhibits, the Central Library features a café, free Wifi and public computers in a welcoming, lively atmosphere.
