We caught up to Douglas Worboys and his enthusiastic entourage at Wilkeson Pointe on the Fourth of July. The family was in town from Rochester for Port of Call: Buffalo, excited to see the fleet as it headed under full sail towards the Buffalo Waterfront at Canalside. Thousands of onlookers in boats and kayaks, as well as those onshore, marveled at the ships, waving and photographing for about an hour until the final boat had passed.

“This is a great opportunity for Buffalo to show off its waterfront,” Worboys noted.

He and his family are regular visitors to Buffalo – recent stops have included the Steel Plant Museum of Western New York, the Buffalo Central Terminal, Buffalo RiverWorks and a tour on Buffalo Harbor Cruises.

“We’re in Buffalo every couple of months,” he added. “Every time we do something different – there’s always a lot of activity. We’ll be back for Garden Walk Buffalo later in the month.”

The family made their way off the Wilkeson Pointe hilltop and headed back to their Canalside hotel, expectations running high for the fireworks display later that night.
