Beaver Island State Park is located at the south end of Grand Island in the upper Niagara River. The 950 acre park has a half-mile sandy beach for swimming, adjacent 80 slip marina with both seasonal and transient boat slips, fishing access, bike and nature trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, athletic fields, horseshoe pits, an 18 hole disc golf course, an 18-hole golf course. Home of “River Lea” the Allen Farm, and the Grand Island Historical Society. In winter, visitors can snowmobile by permit, cross-country ski, snowshoe, sled or ice fish. Hunting is allowed in season by permit. Beaver Island Clubhouse has banquet and catering facilities. For more information please call the park office.

Located across the river from the Labatt Blue silo, Buffalo Cycleboats motto is Pedal, Party, Float!

The CycleBoat is a unique boating experience where biking meet’s boating. It’s perfect for passengers of all ages looking for a new way to enjoy a few hours out on the water. The human-powered boat has 10 pedal stations and can hold up to 16 passengers. With two boats the company can fill large party requests for up to 32 passengers by renting out both boats.

Passengers are allowed to bring their own food and drinks and the crew will take care of the rest. Tours run 9:00am to 10:30pm daily, now through October. Tours can be booked by the seat or by renting out the entire boat.

New this year – a Buffalo Party Barge! The Party Barge is a perfect venue for larger parties (think family reunions, birthdays or corporate team building functions). It seats up to 20 passengers too and you can bring your own food, beverages and music.

Darien Lakes State Park’s terrain is hilly with woodlands, ravines, streams and 12-acre Harlow Lake. The park has a total of 158 campsites (equipped with electricity) with heated comfort stations and showers, a sandy beach, playgrounds, fishing for largemouth black bass, hiking and horseback riding trails, picnic areas and a rustic bridge over the lake channel to Picnic Island. In winter, multiple-use trails are open for hiking, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling and a maintained and heated building for an outdoor skating rink. At 350 acres, Delaware Park was the largest of the three original parks and was a landscape that Olmsted and Vaux called a “country park”.

Although today’s park still offers much in the way of original features, many others have yet to be restored. These include Spire Head House (an exotic gazebo designed by Vaux), a quarry garden, bridle paths, and pedestrian pathways.

Delaware Park can also host Baseball, Basketball, Golf, and Tennis.

One of the first Frederick Law Olmsted-designed parks in Buffalo, the 350 acres of meadow, forest and lake serve as Buffalo’s “Central Park” featuring boating on Hoyt Lake by the Marcy Casino, Rose Garden, Japanese Gardens, and a golf course, and newly added horse-drawn carriage rides (Sunday only from 1pm – 5pm.) As the focal point of the Olmsted System, it contains many popular cultural institutions.

Olmsted had predicted that Delaware Park was destined to take a “distinguished position among the parks of the world.” Known as many Buffalonians’ favorite Olmsted park, it is also nationally recognized.

Wilson-Tuscarora State Park is a well-preserved natural area for many varieties of plants and wildlife, encompassing 476.5 acres of mature woods, open meadows and marshland. Tuscarora Bay, divided from Lake Ontario by a strip of land called “The Island,” has a boat launch and emergency storm shelter docks. The park’s four-mile nature trail is also used for hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Fishing for many varieties of pan fish and game fish, from boats or from shore, is extremely popular. Picnickers can enjoy scenic views of the lake while children play in the playground.

For those who want to experience Western New York’s hidden gem, white water rafting on the mighty Cattaraugus, through Zoar Valley, is the perfect springtime activity. You’ll view rugged cliffs hundreds of feet high, waterfalls (both free falling and hidden by old growth stands of oak, hemlock and tulip), nesting bald eagles, and you’ll experience the finest white water west of the Adirondacks.

The season runs from Mid-March through May and the ten mile trip takes approximately 2 to 4 hours to complete. For those who might want a milder version, a 6 mile run on the lower section of the river, is available.
