Sports Commission

Sports Commission logoThe Buffalo Niagara Sports Commission, a subsidiary of Visit Buffalo Niagara, is a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization created to promote Erie County and Buffalo nationally and internationally as a premier sports tourism destination for the economic benefit of the community by boosting hotel occupancy and encouraging visitor spending.

The Sports Commission fulfills its mission by partnering with local organizations to attract and host a wide array of amateur sports competitions in Buffalo and Erie County such as the World University Games, NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament 1st & 2nd Rounds, World Junior Hockey Championships, multiple USA Hockey National Championships, United States Swimming and Diving Junior Nationals, the ESPN Bassmasters Elite Series, the NCAA Men’s Frozen Four, and the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics, among many others.

These events benefit Buffalo and Erie County both economically and socially by boosting the local economy and making Buffalo and Erie County a better place to live, work and play. As an economic and community development focused organization, in 2012 the Sports Commission assisted in attracting and hosting over 120 events for an economic impact of $158 million.
