We're known for our winters here, so why not celebrate it! The Buffalo Powder Keg Winter Festival, a free downtown event, is planned for February 27-28. Scheduled events include live music, including a performance by Ron Hawkins of Lowest of the Low, the world's largest ice maze, tubing, skating, snow sculpture contests, and bubble hockey tournaments. Everything you love about winter snowballed into one event! Even better, the Powder Keg Winter Festival will coincide with the third annual Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament at the Erie Basin Marina. More...
The New Yorker magazine has named “Heat Waves in a Swamp: the Paintings of Charles Burchfield” as one of the best art exhibitions of 2009. The exhibit, organized by artist Robert Gober, is coming to Buffalo’s Burchfield Penney Art Center from March 6th through May 23rd after a much acclaimed run at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. This is the first major retrospective of Burchfield’s work to be mounted in twenty years. After its appearance in Buffalo, the exhibition travels to the Whitney Museum in New York City in the summer of 2010. More...
