Frank Lloyd Wright Gardens Ready to Bloom in 2019
Thousands of plants, shrubs and flowers will greet visitors to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House in the spring of 2019. Wright’s original landscape design, which featured nearly five dozen species, will bloom for the first time in decades next spring following its re-installation, the last phase of a 25-year, $50 million restoration of the 1.5-acre complex.
The complex’s restored gardens will arguably be the most famous address on the newly-expanded Garden Walk Buffalo, America’s largest free garden tour that will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2019. Nearly 400 homeowners across the city invite visitors into their backyards to explore how creative they can be within the limited confines of an urban garden during the last weekend in July. Just as Wright’s gardens helped define the city’s Parkside neighborhood over a century ago, Buffalo’s contemporary gardeners are redefining Buffalo for the 21st century.
