BUFFALO, N.Y. Mar. 3, 2015 – Visit Buffalo Niagara President and CEO Patrick Kaler has been elected to serve on the board of directors of the U.S. Travel Association.
The U.S. Travel Board of Directors is the overseeing and governing body of U.S. Travel, which represents over 1,300 travel service providers, travel associations and destination marketing organizations like VBN. The board manages the business of the association, votes on organization decisions and oversees the disbursement of monetary funds.
Recognition within the travel industry is an important piece of VBN’s strategy to raise Buffalo’s profile as a tourism destination, Kaler said. Other pieces include attracting meetings, conventions and sporting events to Buffalo, and promoting the Queen City’s renaissance through advertising, social media and public relations.
“The travel industry is recognizing Buffalo as a significant player in the tourism industry,” Kaler said. “To be elected by the membership is validation of the work we do to promote and advance our destination.”
Last fall, Kaler was also appointed to U.S. Travel Association’s destinations council, which unites professionals from over 400 destination marketing organizations nationwide, developing educational programs, networking sessions and conferences for the U.S. travel industry. Kaler has also served as the council’s education chairman since 2013 and was the co-chair for the 2014 Educational Seminar for Tourism Organizations (ESTO) Conference.
In addition, the New York State Tourism Industry Association elected Kaler secretary last fall. The association advocates for government policies and programs that will strengthen the travel industry. It also works to raise consumer awareness and appreciation of travel and vacation opportunities in New York State. Locally, Kaler also serves on the board of the Martin House Restoration Corporation.
Kaler joined VBN in January 2014. Prior to his role in Buffalo, Kaler was President and CEO of Visit Loudoun, the tourism agency for Loudoun County, located just outside of Washington, D.C. He has also served as the senior director of travel industry and tourism development for the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board and has held several other senior level positions in the industry, including serving as executive director of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and executive director for the Great Lakes of North America.
Visit Buffalo Niagara sells and markets our assets and attractions to visitors outside of the Buffalo Niagara region as a convention, tourism and leisure destination for the economic benefit of the community.
