Just because Father’s Day 2020 may look and feel a bit different this year doesn’t mean Dad doesn’t deserve the same love and thoughtfulness when it comes to gift-giving. Here’s a list of fun and creative ideas to help you make this Father’s Day one to remember…although how could we ever forget?
The Gift of a Meal
After three months of quarantine, this may be the greatest gift one can give. The gift of not having to go into the kitchen. The gift of not having to stare into the fridge and groan. The gift of not having to throw yet another hot dog on the grill. Pick your favorite local restaurant currently offering take-out or outdoor dining (view our full takeout list here) and surprise dad with a hot meal from his favorite place or his soon-to-be new favorite place. Need a few ideas? Try 2 Forks Up who has crazy lobster deals right now. Get TWO whole main lobsters with all the sides for only $33. La Verdad has ribs and ‘holla’peno mac and cheese with Dad’s name on it. Or keep it classic with a double order of the cajun hot wings from Bar-Bill Tavern (don’t forget their second location in Clarence!). Oh and don’t make him pick it up. Deliver that straight to his door (masked, of course!).
The Gift of a Membership
Support our local cultural organizations and give Dad the gift of being a tourist in his own backyard this summer. Memberships to the Darwin Martin House, Graycliff, Buffalo Museum of Science, Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site, Burchfield Penney Art Center and others are easy to buy online or over the phone. Want to get even more creative? How about adopting an animal in Dad’s name from the Buffalo Zoo? (Tell him the polar bear gets delivered next week just to freak him out!) Or check out the online museum store at the Darwin Martin House just for Dad!
The Gift of Sweet Treats
When all else fails, try sugar. It’s the universal love language, right? We’ve all been baking up a storm lately but nothing tops a sugar rush from your favorite neighborhood spot. How about an order of cinnamon rolls and and sweets from The Grange Community Kitchen in Hamburg for your favorite guy? Homemade pop tarts, macarons and a bag of local coffee from FairyCakes making you drool? This Little Pig has fresh-baked pies available – bourbon-pecan peach, anyone?
The Gift of Tradition
How many years have you gone with a Father’s Day gift go-to like anything for home improvement? Doesn’t matter, the moral of the story is Dad STILL loves his lawn and our local seasonal nurseries are making things easy for you with call-ahead or online ordering with curbside pickup to boot!
The Gift of Beer
The way to a man’s heart is not just through his stomach…but also his liver. BEER! Dad dreams about a summer sipping tall boys on the back patio so stock his fridge full of some local brews from Big Ditch, 42 North, Community Beer Works and more. Call ahead to order or swing by your nearest Consumer’s Beverages. If you can’t decide if an IPA or a Pilsener suits dad best, buy a gift card and let him pick!
