Lecture – River of Fire: My Spiritual Journey

Social advocate, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Pulitzer-Prize winning Author – Sister Helen Prejean is known around the world for her tireless work against the death penalty. She has been instrumental in sparking national dialogue on capital punishment and in shaping the Catholic Church’s vigorous opposition to all executions. Sr. Helen will talk about her own spiritual journey in her newest book, River of Fire: My Spiritual Journey, published in 2019. River of Fire traces her journey of spiritual awakening. She refers to her book as “the prequel to Dead Man Walking.” The book follows her as a young woman who grew up in a white, middle-class family in the Jim Crow South, as she found her way to the housing projects of New Orleans, and from there to accompany a man on death row to his execution.
