The Buffalo State Performing Arts Center welcomes smooth jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum to the stage on Saturday, November 11, at 8:00 p.m. Whalum is a 12-time Grammy Award nominee with a career that has spanned five decades. He won his first Grammy in 2011 for Best Gospel Song (“It’s What I Do,” featuring Lalah Hathaway) alongside friend and writer Jerry Peters. Whalum toured with Whitney Houston for more than seven years and soloed on her hit single “I Will Always Love You,” the best-selling single by a female artist in music history. He’s been featured on many Luther Vandross albums, has recorded numerous successful solo albums and film soundtracks, and recorded with R&B icon Babyface on his hit songs “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” and “When Can I See You.” In 2014, Whalum was the inaugural Jazz Legend honoree of the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville and has been honored with a star on the Nashville Walk of Fame.
