This event will be an immersive “living history” event that will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette’s visit to Black Rock (June 5, 1825) when he was welcomed to the Black Rock home of General Peter Porter for breakfast. Lafayette’s visit to Black Rock was part of his farewell tour of America in which he visited all 24 states as part of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the nation. The event will include historic reenactors portraying Lafayette, Porter and the Seneca Chief Red Jacket along with military veteran and citizens. Guests will be entertained with period music and will be offered a light buffet including quiche, croissants, salad, water/coffee/tea, and dessert. A reading of Oliver Forward’s welcome to General Lafayette on behalf of the citizens of Buffalo will be read and guests will be welcome to greet the general and other dignitaries for photo ops. Posters with the narrative of Lafayette’s farewell tour of America along with historic vignettes.
