Buffalo cranks out great patios like Beyoncé cranks out hit singles. Move over Queen Bey: the sun is here and the Queen City is bursting at the seams with a whole new crop of spots for you to day drink your summer away.
Here now is this year’s annual list of Buffalo’s best concrete paradises – including several suggestions for dog-friendly patios, noted with paws ?. As always, they’re Big Elevator tested, Big Elevator approved.
The Terrace at Delaware Park, 199 Lincoln Pkwy.
The Terrace’s patio overlooking Hoyt Lake is long overdue. Ladies, break out your favorite sun dress and fellas, pull those pastel shorts out of the closet because it’s time to hob-knob with the brunch crowd. If you’re looking to class up a lazy Sunday, this is your spot.
Squeeze Juicery, 770 Elmwood Ave.
Squeeze Juicery will see your dog friendly patio and raise you an entirely dog friendly shop. The folks at Squeeze welcome you to bring your furry friend right in with you while you place your order for one of their delicious cold-pressed juices or açaí bowls. This organic oasis in the Elmwood Village is prime people watching real-estate after a walk (or run) in the park with your pooch.
Dos Amigos, 3800 Hoover Rd., Blasdell
It’s Spanish for two friends, but feel free to bring more than two to this sprawling outdoor oasis on Lake Erie. Get comfy on one of the couches, ask the staff to light up a fire-pit, and get ready for an Instagram worthy sunset.
Resurgence Brewing Co., 1250 Niagara St.
Is there anything that this place can’t do? I submit that there is not. The West Coast Vibe beer garden is open to you and your fur baby year round! Just use the side gate and keep Fido on a leash. Like any good dog-friendly spot, the folks at Resurgence make sure your pup has plenty of cold water, and you have plenty of cold beer.
MTK, 451 Elmwood Ave.
If there’s one thing missing from even the best patios in the city, it’s water. Fear not, my boozy brothers and sisters: MTK has remedied that problem with baby pools and lounge chairs. Dip your feet in the water and canoodle with the cool kids at this Sunday hot spot. Off on Monday? Follow the crowd to Falley Allen and keep the party going deep into the night.
Allen Burger Venture, 175 Allen St.
The size of ABV’s patio makes it tough for bigger dogs, but if your pooch is of the hand held or miniature variety, ABV is the perfect place to people watch over pint of beer, or ABV’s famous loaded tater tots.
Sweetness 7 Café, 220 Grant St.
Your collared companion’s favorite brunch spot this summer is going to be Sweetness. After all that patio partying you two did on Saturday, head to Sweetness on a lazy Sunday for some quality R&R!
Deep South Taco, 291 Ellicott St. & 1707 Hertel Ave.
Last year I told you that Deep South’s downtown location was poised to be the next big thing in outdoor day drinking and hoo-boy was I right. All that success spawned a second Deep South Taco in North Buffalo. The new location boasts a gigantic outdoor patio complete with a bar, projection screen, booths and enough tequila and tacos to fuel a day long bender.
So there you have it, friends. Another summer is upon us and the Day-Drinking Gods have once again gifted us with a plethora of urban oases. So slather on the sunscreen, forget about the work week and enjoy Buffalo’s true second season. Patio like a champion this summer, Buffalo.
