Already home to 22 professional theater companies, Buffalo’s reputation as a center for the arts continues to grow.  You’ll find Broadway musicals at Shea’s Performing Arts Center, a European-style opera house of real grandeur in the heart of the city’s downtown; classic and contemporary musicals at MusicalFare Theatre; the greatest works of dramatic literature at the Irish Classical Theatre Company; pieces by African-Americans and people of color at Ujima Theatre and the Paul Robeson Theatre; work by up-and-coming and undiscovered playwrights at the Alleyway Theatre; an eclectic menu of musicals, comedies and drama at the lovely and intimate Kavinoky Theatre on the campus of D’Youville College; and entertainment for young audiences at Theatre of Youth in the beautifully-restored Allendale Theatre in the historic Allentown neighborhood.

In summertime, Shakespeare in Delaware Park is the second largest outdoor Shakespeare festival in the country. Nestled in the natural amphitheater that has come to be known as "Shakespeare Hill," a grand Tudor-style stage is constructed each summer as the home for Shakepeare’s stories of passion, laughter and love.

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Buffalo Chamber Music Society are both at home in the acoustic and architectural perfection of the internationally-acclaimed Kleinhans Music Hall.

Artpark in nearby Lewiston, overlooks the magnificent Niagara Gorge, where a series of shows - from Broadway to bluegrass and the blues - is held between June and September.

HSBC Arena - on the city’s waterfront - regularly reverberates when the monsters of rock come to town.  And the University at Buffalo’s Center for the Arts in suburban Amherst also hosts a full schedule of concerts, dance performances and lectures.

You’ll find jazz at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery as part of its Art of Jazz Series; concerts at the Town Ballroom downtown; and experimental and avant-garde music at Soundlab. ALT Theatre

Buffalo ComedySportz

Similar to, 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?', but set up like a sporting event, Singing of the National Anthem starts off every match. A ComedySportz match features two teams of improvisational 'actletes' competing for laughs and points based on audience suggestions. A referee keeps things moving along and calls penalties and fouls. An average of seven to ten Improv games are played during each match. Every show is different with different players, different games, and different audiences supplying new suggestions. The fans judge the scenes and games and ultimately decide the winners and losers. ComedySportz also asks willing volunteers to join in on the onstage fun for a game or two each match.

BUFFALO GATEWAY CHORUS

The Buffalo Gateway Chorus is an award-winning chapter of Sweet Adelines International. The chorus membership ranges in age from 20 to 90 years young, and the 80 members travel from within Western New York, northwestern Pennsylvania and Ontario to take part in our celebration of song. Their music is sung in four-part acapella harmony in the barbershop style. Their repertoire includes show tunes and modern music as well as some favorites from the past. The chorus has performed at a wide variety of area venues including the Chautauqua Institution, summer concerts at town parks and they hold an annual Fall Show and Winter Cabaret. Buffalo Gateway Show Chorus is currently ranked as the sixth highest scoring contest in the world among Sweet Adeline International choruses and will compete in Hawaii in November 2008 at the annual international competition.

Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus

The Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus consists of one hundred and forty auditioned voices made up of skilled and committed singers who continually develop and pursue its 72-year tradition of excellence. COLORED MUSICIANS CLUB

The Colored Musicians Club is the only remaining African American club of its kind in the United States. In 1999, it was designated a historical preservation site. Currently, the Club is promoting historical research and the preservation of jazz in Buffalo. Erie Canal Drama Theatre

The Erie Canal Drama Theatre was established in 2008 as a not-for-profit. Their first historical drama was called Clinton's Ditch" the Story of the Building of the Erie Canal. Historic Palace Theatre

A proscenium-arch space built in 1925, designed with a mix of art deco and Italian Renaissance styles complete with beautiful wall and ceiling murals. In 1999, Curtain Up Productions became the resident production company and opens around six main stage musicals every year. Run by a board of directors, it is primarily the Lockport community's support that keeps the growing theatre open. Nickel City Opera

Nickel City Opera began as a vision by Valerian Ruminski, one of the few singers to become a living legacy of the former defunct Greater Buffalo Opera Company run by Gary Burgess from 1986-1997. Torn Space Theater

Torn Space Theater is a multimodal performance-based company located in Buffalo, NY.
