Caitlin WaasCaitlin Waas

Born in Buffalo, Caitlin Waas grew up in Cortland, New York. She returned to Buffalo to attend Canisius College, fell in love with her hometown, and stayed here. She works as an Account Manager for Travers Collins & Company, a local marketing communications firm.

My favorite activities include

Winter — Skating for free at Fountain Plaza. Spring — Walks in Delaware Park and around Hoyt Lake with my German Shepherd (actually, I like to do this all year round!). Summer — Going to the many wonderful festivals we have or having lunch at the Hatch. Fall — Playing in a coed touch football league behind the Rose Garden in Delaware Park, going to Bills games, and driving anywhere in the city and seeing our beautiful fall foliage.

5 Things I love about Buffalo

  1. The people!  Anytime I have out-of-town visitors, they are always amazed at the friendliness of anyone who walks by.
  2. All four seasons.  We have the most beautiful spring, summer & fall… and the winter never gets to me—especially since we’re a city who knows how to embrace & enjoy the cold!
  3. Friday night fish fry—take your pick of who has the best.  I’ve tried about 15 different restaurants’ fish fry and I can’t pick a favorite!
  4. All of the fabulous food in the area—including our outstanding restaurants, the Broadway Market, farmers markets and festivals.
  5. Delaware Park.  There is never a lack of activity, whether you’re dodging golf balls, watching pee wee soccer games, weaving through rollerbladers, stopping to see the Bison pen at the zoo

My favorite local hidden treasures you shouldn’t miss

Forest Lawn Cemetery. Just beautiful. Take a Sunday afternoon to walk through it.

My perfect day spent in the Buffalo-area

Breakfast at Ambrosia on Elmwood Avenue at Hodge. Rollerblading through Delaware Park. Lunch at Vito’s and eating it outside at Fountain Plaza. Shopping on Elmwood—buying a book at Talking Leaves and starting to read it with a drink at Caffe Aroma. Chasing my dog through Bidwell Park and taking in the beautiful scenery (the houses on Chapin & Lincoln Parkways). Dinner on Hertel Avenue — either a fish fry at Wellington Pub or a gourmet pizza at La Dolce Vita. Watch the sunset at Erie Basin Marina, and spend the rest of the evening at Founding Fathers Pub, trying to stump or be stumped with trivia from Mike the bartender and owner.
