ARTPARK

Artpark is a picturesque 150 acre performing and visual arts park along the historic Niagara River Gorge on land rich in both Native American history, pioneer and early American history. Artpark includes several archeological sites, including a Hopewell Mound from one of the earliest Native American mound building cultures and the remnants of the much more recent Oak Hill Mansion. Artpark is also a National Wildlife Federation Backyard Wildlife Habitat, National Audubon Society birding site (along the Niagara River Corridor), and a popular destination for hiking, picnics, and fishing . CASTELLANI ART MUSEUM OF NIAGARA UNIVERSITY

While the collection illustrates the development of modern art, it focuses primarily on art from the 1970's to the present. FESTIVAL THEATER

Learn the fascinating history of Niagara Falls through a History Channel film produced specifically for the Festival Theater. "Niagara: A History of the Falls," is a 22-minute film featuring highlights from a two-hour documentary produced by the History Channel in 1999. The film takes viewers from the first sighting of Niagara Falls in 1697, to modern events, such as the time the American Falls were artificially dewatered in 1969. "Niagara: A History of the Falls," is shown on the hour; January - April, weekends only 9am-5pm; May and June daily 10am-8pm; July to Labor Day, weekends 9am-9pm; Labor Day weekend to the end of September, 10am-6pm; October - December 9am-5pm.

FORT GEORGE

FOURMILE CREEK STATE PARK

Four Mile Creek State Park is located just 15 minutes north of the mighty Niagara Falls. The 275 campsites average 50' x 50' in size and feature both shady and sunny settings. Available services range from 10 50 amp sites and 121 30 amp sites to 144 non-electric sites accommodating the biggest rig to the most primitive tent site. 21 prime sites, electric or non-electric, are located near the shores of Lake Ontario and offer spectacular panoramic views. The park has hiking trails for campers along the densely wooded bluffs. The marsh at the mouth of Four Mile Creek is home to fauna such as great blue herons, white tail deer and to flora such as stunning white trillium and greenbrier. A camp store is located at Four Mile Creek. Laundry facilities are located at comfort stations in the 100 and 200 areas. A modern playground is centrally located in the park. Seasonal.

FREEDOM CROSSING AT CASTELLANI ART MUSEUM

The dramatic and heart-rending stories of the people who risked their lives for freedom, as well as the lasting heritage of their ancestors, can now be experienced at Freedom Crossing, the new Regional Underground Railroad Interpretive Center, on the campus of Niagara University in nearby Lewiston. Freedom crossing tells the story of the Underground Railroad in Buffalo Niagara through historic photographs, artifacts, stories, audio stations, and art. Brochures and maps are available to Underground Railroad historic sites.

JOSEPH DAVIS STATE PARK

Joseph Davis State Park has a variety of recreational activities. The terrain is generally flat, with fields, woodlands and ponds. Anglers can fish for largemouth bass in the pond near the park entrance or for a variety of freshwater fish from the fishing dock on the lower Niagara River. The park also has a nature trail, as well as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling trails and a 27-hole frisbee disc golf course. Park is open year round. Small game hunting is permitted only during pheasant season, water fowl hunting with permit only during season.

NIAGARA RESERVATION STATE PARK

Niagara Reservation State Park, which surrounds mighty Niagara Falls, is the oldest state park in the United States. The park is made up of numerous islands, as well as the famous Prospect Point area. The magnificent Great Lakes Garden greets visitors entering the park. The visitor center offers information and exhibits about the park's history, geology and technology. The Niagara Scenic Trolley provides three-mile guided tours, stopping at the park's most scenic vistas and at such facilities as the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center, which tells the story of the creation of the falls with exhibits and a multiscreen theater presentation. The Observation Tower has elevators that take visitors 180 feet down to the base of the tower for a close-up view of the American Falls. While in the park ride the world famous Maid of the Mist Boat and get wet while at the Cave of the Winds attraction. Visitors can also hike, bike and fish. Open year round.

WHIRLPOOL STATE PARK

Whirlpool State Park has two levels - the upper, or street level has many overlooks with spectacular views of the swirling waters of the rapids, the whirlpool and the Niagara River Escarpment. Visitors picnic and children use the playground at this level. The lower, or river level is accessible by walking the 300 feet of trails and steps that descend into the gorge.
