Holidays on Ice
On Sunday, November 23, 2008, Buffalo Place will team up with Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller to present the 2008 Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration. This annual holiday event is held at Rotary Rink at Fountain Plaza (Main at Chippewa Street), and marks the official opening of the free ice-skating season at Downtown Buffalo’s outdoor skating facility. Family festivities begin at 4 p.m. with free ice-skating. At 5 p.m., Buffalo Place officials and Ryan Miller will countdown the lighting of the tree and Santa Claus will light a fireworks display over Fountain Plaza.
The fun will continue at Rotary Rink with visits with Santa, holiday gifts and free ice-skating. Attendees can bring their own skates or rent skates at the rink for a nominal fee. In addition, Roswell Park Alliance Foundation will be selling limited edition holiday ornaments for $10 each with proceeds to benefit Carly's Club.
Following the lighting of the tree, Shea’s Smith Theatre at 660 Main Street will host a meet and greet with Ryan Miller and very special guest cast members of the world-famous Radio City Rockettes. Buffalo Place formed a collaboration between Ryan Miller’s Saves for Cancer Campaign, Roswell Park and Shea’s Performing Arts Center to offer one hundred tickets at $100 each to be made available for this exclusive meet and greet. Tickets will include admission to the 7 p.m. performance of The Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes on Sunday, November 23rd at Shea’s Performing Arts Center. Partial proceeds will benefit Carly’s Club at Roswell Park. Tickets for the exclusive meet and greet are on sale now and can be purchased by contacting Kate Foster, Shea’s Group Sales, at 716/829-1154 or by email at kfoster@sheas.org.
