The Art of Music
The Music is Art Festival ’08 will take place on Saturday, September 13th at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. This all-day free event will feature three stages of theater, art and music exhibition.
This is the sixth year the Music is Art Festival is taking place. Founded by Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls in 2003, Music is Art attracts thousands and is one of the most anticipated performing arts events of the year.
Kicking off at 11 a.m., the all-day event will take place outdoors (rain or shine) on the Lincoln Parkway side of the gallery. More than 25 bands are scheduled to play throughout the day, including such well known local favorites as Juxtaposse and Agent ME. In addition to performing arts, visual arts will also be intermingled. Live art creation and photography will be displayed. There will also be a kid’s village, a not-for-profit row, and a dj performance area, with 11 djs including Robby Takac’s own amungus. Dance exhibitions are set to include multiple dance schools, centers and studios. The Music is Art Student Battle of the Bands winners will play on the main stage, and this year the other finalists and winner of The Big Easy in Buffalo battle will also perform.
The festival is one of seven core programs of Music is Art, including a music instrument drive currently taking place at 18 Starbucks locations until August 17. Information on Music is Art and its programs can be found at www.musicisart.org.
