Street Painting in Springville

Springville Street PaintingSpringville will host its first annual Street Painting Festival on August 24th, 2008 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.   Artists of all abilities will have the opportunity to paint in the street with pastels, while the sounds of local musicians fill the air.  Enjoy food and drinks, and bring the family and watch or participate in this first time ever event.

Watch as artists reproduce their favorite works using only chalk.  This idea stems from the street painter, “madonnari,” that is popular throughout Italy.  The beauty of this art form is observing the artist in progress while enjoying a festive atmosphere.

Everyone, from middle schoolers through professionals is encouraged to participate.  Visit their website to reserve your spot.  Applications will be accepted through the day of the event.

For the younger children, there will be a craft tent where kids and families can sketch out designs and then draw on a huge grid in the Art Center parking lot.  There will also be a variety of musical performers including Heard of Buffalo, Acoustically Insane and Alison Pipitone performing throughout the festival.

This event is presented by the Springville Center for the Arts.  The Festival will be on Franklin, Mechanic and Chapel Streets in Springville, NY.  For more information, visit www.springvillestreetpaintingfestival.com
