Chill at the Pine Grill

Springville Street PaintingOne of Buffalo’s most unique summer music events is the Pine Grill Jazz Reunion.  Held in Martin Luther King Jr. Park, Pine Grill celebrates African American culture and Buffalo’s important role in the evolution and lasting legacy of jazz.

Both national and local jazz musicians perform at the Pine Grill Jazz Reunion.  Each year, the concerts draw together close to 10,000 Buffalonians and visitors.

The Pine Grill Jazz Reunion stems from the original Pine Grill Nightclub, once located on Jefferson Avenue, in the heart of the East Side of Buffalo.  During the 1950s, Buffalo played an important part in the jazz circuit, and was a hotspot for visiting musicians.  Jazz sensations such as Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis played at the Pine Grill Nightclub.  The club closed in the mid-1980s and in 1990, the Pine Grill Jazz series began.

The Pine Grill Jazz Reunion is presented by the African American Cultural Center, a not-for-profit multipurpose arts organization founded in 1958. It is dedicated to promoting, sponsoring and developing an appreciation of and allegiance to African American heritage.  For more information, call 716-884-2013 or visit www.africancultural.org
