A Rainbow of Activities
Taking place Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th, Pride Weekend returns to recognize, celebrate and affirm the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people. The theme of this year’s Pride Weekend is “Heroes: Standing Out.” Come celebrate the hero in everyone, from the everyday hero to the extraordinary hero.
The weekend kicks off on Saturday, June 7th with the Seventh Annual Dyke March and Rally. Beginning at 7:15 p.m. at the new Bank of America on Elmwood Avenue near West Utica, come out and celebrate and support the fantastic women of the community. March with mothers, daughters, sisters and friends up Elmwood Avenue to Bidwell Parkway where there will be a post-march celebration featuring singers, songwriters, dancing and a cash bar.
Sunday is the GLBT Pride Parade that begins at 1 p.m. outside of Kleinhans Music Hall. With more than 40 groups represented, and many more individuals, the parade features these persons and specially designed floats for the occasion. The parade will proceed along a 1.5 mile route on Elmwood Avenue to the Main Stage area at Bidwell Parkway from 2-6 p.m. Then the party really starts with a complete lineup of events, including international and national performers, singers and comedians. Stroll through the Marketplace and dance the night away at the cocktail pavilion area.
