From Pierogis to Souvlaki

Hellenic FestivalThe 6th Annual Polish Heritage Festival will run Friday, May 30th- Sunday, June 1st at the Agri-center at the Fairgrounds in the nearby suburb of Hamburg. This year's theme is "Poland in the Country." This family-oriented festival features Polish entertainers, artists, and crafters, and will feature several contests including the Great Polish-American Czarnina Duck Race. The event gives Polish-American organizations and vendors an opportunity to showcase their talents and services.  The festival is also competing for a Guinness World Record by cooking up the most fish fries.

The Buffalo Hellenic Heritage Festival is set to take place on Friday, June 6th- Sunday, June 8th at the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Annunciation along Delaware Avenue in downtown Buffalo.  The 31st Annual festival includes traditional Greek foods and entertainment, music and art.    

Inside the festival, visitors can shop for Greek jewelry and souvenirs, as well as fresh Greek favorites including feta, olives and spices.  Outside the festival, traditional Hellenic music plays throughout the nights and Greek dance troupes will perform.

The highlight of this festival is the food, which includes a few dozen Greek dishes.  Everything from the well-known favorites of spanakopita, souvlaki and gyros to casseroles of tiropita and pastitso.  Greek wines, desserts and other tasty treats will be served.  For more information, visit www.hellenicfestival.com.
