Parkside Tour of Homes in Buffalo, NY

Buffalo is renowned for its distinct neighborhoods and the architecture representative of each area. Get the chance to tour these unique houses and homes, some of which date back to the mid-19th century and learn about two of Buffalo’s most stunning neighborhoods: Linwood and Parkside.

On Sunday, April 27th, the interiors of more than a dozen homes in the Linwood District will be open for tour from noon to 4:30 p.m. The Linwood District was one of the original neighborhoods in Buffalo home to wealthy merchants, industrialists and businessmen. Every home along Linwood is vastly different and unlike its neighbors. Houses along the tour range from the recently renovated Artspace building to the Silverthorne Mansion, the 2007 Junior League Decorators Show House. View a belvedere Italianate, one of the district’s oldest houses and a mushroom-turreted Shingle-style home. Get the chance to view high-ceilinged rooms and grand staircases along this historic avenue.

Tickets are available at Art Dialogue Gallery, One Linwood Avenue or through mail to Tour of Homes, 242 Linwood Avenue, Buffalo, NY  14209. Tickets and guidebook can be picked up at the gallery on the day of the tour.

The Ninth Annual Parkside Tour of Homes will take place Sunday, May 18th from 11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The Parkside neighborhood is adjacent to Frederick Law Olmsted’s Delaware Park, the Buffalo Zoo, and contains four homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Homeowners supported by knowledgeable docents will walk you through several architectural masterpieces.

The Parkside area contains many diverse styles such as the American Four Square, Victorian, Queen Anne, Craftsman, and the Arts & Crafts bungalow. The 1880 thru 1930 building period includes designs by prominent local architects E.B. Green and William Sydney Wicks.

In addition to viewing many private homes, visitors will have the chance to also take a mini tour of the beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright Darwin Martin House Complex, located directly in this neighborhood. This includes the new pergola, conservatory, and carriage house.

The Parkside Community Association’s self-guided tour starts at the Church of the Good Shepherd. Information, tickets and maps will be available at the start of the tour. The tour will be held rain or shine and is intended for those ages 12+. For more information, call 716-838-1240 or visit www.parksidebuffalo.org.
