March 25, 2008 - “WICKED,” the most anticipated musical production of the 2007 – 2008 season, will go on sale to the public on Saturday, April 5. Tickets will be exclusively available at the Shea’s Ticket Office, 650 Main Street, from 7 a.m. – 10 a.m. during a special on sale event. Beginning at 10 a.m., any remaining tickets will be available for purchase by calling Ticketmaster at 716-852-5000, online at www.ticketmaster.com and www.sheas.org. There is an eight-ticket limit per patron.
Due to pre-existing sales to subscribers and groups, there is a limited inventory of “WICKED” tickets to start with. Patrons are urged to purchase their tickets to “WICKED” early. As an example of the demand for “WICKED” tickets on tour, its four-week engagement at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC sold out in a record seven hours and one-day sales totals in Los Angeles, Chicago, Providence, Detroit, St. Louis and Cincinnati have surpassed $1 million.
“WICKED” is a new musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Disney’s Enchanted, Academy Award winner for Pocahontas and The Prince of Egypt) and book by Winnie Holzman (“My So Called Life,” “Once And Again” and “thirtysomething”) based on the best-selling 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire. “WICKED” is set to make its Buffalo premiere starting June 18.
“WICKED,” winner of 15 major awards, including a Grammy® Award and 3 Tony® Awards, is the untold story of the witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One - born with emerald green skin - is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. “WICKED” tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.
“WICKED” will play June 18 – July 13, 2008 at Shea’s Performing Arts Center.
