From Ballet to Broadway to “Bohemian Rhapsody”
“Giselle,” “Evita” and “One Night of Queen” will shine at the University at Buffalo Performing Arts Center in April.
March 25, 2008 - UB’s Center for the Arts will explode in song and dance this April, with everything from ballet to Broadway to “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
The St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre kicks off April with its production of the stunning visual masterpiece “Giselle” on Wednesday, April 2nd at 8 p.m. One of classical ballet’s most notable and romantic works, “Giselle” was first performed over a century ago in Paris before premiering a year later in St. Petersburg. Requiring great technical skill and acting ability, “Giselle” is one of the most challenging ballets to perform—one that has delighted audiences across the world.
Winner of seven Tony Awards, one of Broadway’s most beloved musicals—“Evita”—will bring to life the dynamic, larger-than life persona of Eva Peron on Friday, April 11th and Saturday, April 12th, both nights at 8 p.m. The story of the wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron features one of the most memorable musical scores. The collaboration of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Latin, pop and jazz infused songs including “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina” will leave a lasting impression on audiences.
And get ready to rock at “One Night of Queen” on Sunday, April 6th at 8 p.m. Gary Mullen & The Works will perform as Freddie Mercury and Queen and perform all the hits of one of the greatest rock bands of all time. He has performed around the world as the legendary Mercury and this is his first tour of the United States. World-recognized as the closest thing to Freddie, “his voice, persona and portrayal send a shiver down your spine and leave your hairs standing on end.” This night is guaranteed to “rock you!”
Tickets for all shows are available at the Center Box Office, and all Ticketmaster locations including ticketmaster.com. The Center for the Arts is located on UB’s North Campus. For more information, call 716-645-ARTS or visit www.ubcfa.org.
