Warm up at the Zoo

Buffalo Zoo

On Sunday, January 11th, “Warm Up With the Cold-Blooded.”  Come in out of the cold, and warm up with your favorite scaly friends in the Reptile House! Learn all there is to know about reptiles from keeper’s views, snake feedings, participate in interactive enrichment activities and much more! The event runs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and is free with Zoo admission.

Step inside and don’t miss the recently opened M&T Bank’s Rainforest Falls! The $16 million fully-enclosed Rainforest Falls was designed to replicate the unique geology and ecology of Canaima National Park in Venezuela and houses a variety of animal species native to South America. Hundreds of animals line the exhibit from ocelots to a colorful collection of poison dart frogs, capybara, giant anteaters, red-footed tortoises and dwarf caiman. Dozens of free-flight birds including boat-billed herons, roseate spoonbills, blue-crowned mot-mots and scarlet ibis soar above you.  A cascading waterfall,  modeled after Angel Falls, the world’s tallest waterfall in South America, plunges 25 feet and hides a cave inhabited by vampire bats, piranhas and a giant anaconda.

The Buffalo Zoo is the third oldest zoo in the country and features hundreds of domestic and exotic animals in both indoor and outdoor natural habitats.  The Zoo is currently open for Winter hours Wednesday-Sunday 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays through March.  For more information, visit www.buffalozoo.org or call (716)837-3900.
