Pull out the coolers, grills and chairs. Make the rounds to Wegmans, Consumers and the nearest butcher shop. It’s picnic season, people!
Buffalo summers are some of the best around as our city is blessed with warm temps and cool lake breezes. Perfect weather is the first step in your picnic planning prep. After that, you need to focus your attention on the smaller, but wildly important, details. Your Buffalo-style picnic, no matter how large or small, need only be concerned about the four major components: LOCATION, FOOD, BEVERAGE & FUN.
Delaware Park – the crown jewel of Buffalo’s Olmsted parks system awaits. Post up at a picnic table (located near the basketball courts) or bring a blanket and pick a shady spot under a willow tree near Hoyt Lake for more of an intimate picnic for two.
Chestnut Ridge Park – this County Park is just a short 15-20 minute drive from downtown Buffalo. Reserve your shelter in advance or stop at the first picnic table you come across. Save time for a hike into the woods as you chart a course to the Eternal Flame!
Buffalo Harbor State Park – Buffalo’s newest state park is right on the water and boasts plentiful boat and birdwatching, inspiring sunsets, and a fun playground the kids will love!
Bison Dip – You pick the agent to consume the dip…chips, pretzels, veggies, your fingers. Whatever works.
Water – Be responsible, have a few brews and then make the switch.
Any variety of bag toss or washers game will work, but remember Buffalo invented your favorite frisbee flinging activity, Kan-Jam!
Football, baseball & mitts, badminton, volleyball, pack up those summer sport essentials and head out!
