This summer, over 625 events and activities will encompass a wide range of programming including regularly scheduled family programs featuring Explore & More...a children's museum, Buffalo Museum of Science/Tifft Nature Preserve, Young Audiences of WNY, as well as 2 appearances of the Pop Up Park Playground. In addition, Story of Buffalo performances, Music at the Ruins, Shakespeare at Canalside, Saturday Artisan Market and the UB Archaeological Dig highlight the myriad of cultures in our region.
The continuous activity blossoms each day with hands-on activities for children, live music and theatrical performances to make Canalside a must see destination. Also, be sure to check the calendar for such great events such as the Buffalo Irish Festival, Annual Pride Festival, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and The Ride for Roswell or simply “rock out” this summer along the waterfront at the 15th Annual "Buffalo Place Rocks the Harbor" and "Thursday at Canalside" Concert Series.
Walking, biking, boating and kayaking tours are also available to explore the area with the help of an experienced guide. Learn about Buffalo's roots and experience a self-guided walking tour of the recently restored Erie Canal area! During the 19th and early 20th centuries, the harbor functioned as the bustling "western terminus" of the Erie Canal. Visitors can experience many original elements including the refurbished "Commercial Slip," "Central Wharf," "Whipple Truss" foot bridge, cobblestone "Commercial Street," and the excavated foundations of several canal era buildings.
There are also two eateries at Canalside, Clinton's Dish, serves casual fare while offering a great view of the Erie Canal Terminus, and The Liberty Hound at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park, which affords a casual-contemporary atmosphere and features seafood and a bar.
