The world renowned travelling exhibit, "Mummies of the World: The Exhibition" opens April 12 for a limited engagement. Mummies of the World, the largest exhibition of mummies and related artifacts ever assembled, presents a never-before-seen collection of naturally and intentionally preserved mummies. This astonishing collection of mummies and related artifacts includes the Vac Mummies, a mummified family from Hungary believed to have died from tuberculosis; MUMAB also known as the Maryland Mummy, a modern-day ancient mummy created by scientists in 1994 using the same methods as ancient Egyptians; and the rare Burns Museum Collection from the Medical Alumni Association of the University of Maryland Baltimore showcasing examples of scientific application and medical techniques for the analysis of mummies, displaying the important shift from autopsy to modern medical science to study mummies.
Embark on a journey into the extraordinary world of mummies and mummification. Through modern science, engaging interactives and multi-media exhibits, the exhibition reveals how the scientific study of mummies provides a window into the lives of ancient people from every region of the world, offering unprecedented insights into past cultures and civilization.
