Place Relations

Thursday, Jan. 1st

Place Relations is a new programming initiative that will take shape as an ongoing exhibition and performance series exploring notions of cultural identity from a variety of places around the world. The inaugural iteration Place Relations: Identity in Contemporary Israeli Avant Garde Art will feature a shifting roster of artists from Israel whose rotating work will be placed in a series of conversations with one another.  In addition to the many full scale gallery installs, there will be additional film screenings and other related programming throughout the run of the exhibition.

Building Buffalo

This new exhibit at the library’s Central branch: Buildings From Books, Books From Buildings, focuses on an outstanding collection of rare and exquisitely illustrated books encompassing the history of architecture and landscape design from the late 15th through mid-20th Century. These served as an educational resource and inspiration for generations of architects who created the built treasures Buffalo celebrates today. These are, in short, the books that helped build buildings.

Blood at the Root

A striking new ensemble drama based on the Jena Six; six Black students who were charged with attempted murder for a school fight after being provoked with nooses hanging from a tree. This bold new play examines the miscarriage of justice, racial double standards, and the crises in relations between men and women and, as a result, the shattering state of Black family life.
