Building Buffalo

This new exhibit at the library’s Central branch: Buildings From Books, Books From Buildings, focuses on an outstanding collection of rare and exquisitely illustrated books encompassing the history of architecture and landscape design from the late 15th through mid-20th Century. These served as an educational resource and inspiration for generations of architects who created the built treasures Buffalo celebrates today. These are, in short, the books that helped build buildings.

With a score from Tony Award winning composer Jeanine Tesori, VIOLET is an emotional performance with show-stopping music.  VIOLET received the Drama Critics’ Circle Award as well as the Lucille Lortell Award for Best Musical when it ran off-Broadway in 1997.  Making its debut on Broadway in 2014, VIOLET is the story of a scarred woman who ventures on a cross country journey full of discovery along the way.

Minding Frankie

Ireland’s Maeve Binchy’s charming and poignant novel serves as the inspiration for Shay Linehan’s sensitive adaptation of Minding Frankie. Noel, a lonely and well-intentioned middle-aged Dublin alcoholic, suddenly becomes the “minder” of baby girl Frankie. Building a life for the two of them is not easy, but Noel is supported by his quirky and unconventional extended family, much to the dismay of a disapproving social worker.
