Milestones of Science

Entitled Milestones of Science: Books That Shook the World!, the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library is proud to offer, in its largest-ever exhibition,  a selection of the 35 most significant rare books in the Milestones of Science collection.  The exhibition is organized by ten science-related disciplines/themes.  Alongside the magnificent books on display are attractive graphics and immersive information on the authors and the revolutionary ideas posed through their publications. Interactive activity stations, representative props and illustrative banners and wall panels further illuminate the presented themes.

Building Buffalo

This new exhibit at the library’s Central branch: Buildings From Books, Books From Buildings, focuses on an outstanding collection of rare and exquisitely illustrated books encompassing the history of architecture and landscape design from the late 15th through mid-20th Century. These served as an educational resource and inspiration for generations of architects who created the built treasures Buffalo celebrates today. These are, in short, the books that helped build buildings.

Twilight Tour

When the sun goes down and the lights come up in the pergola, tours at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House Complex take on a whole new sense of drama. The pergola and conservatory are breath-taking at twilight, showing off the cast of the Nike of Samothrace, in a unique and ambient glow. Tour length is 1 1/2 hours, begins at the Barton House: 118 Summit Avenue.

Tour start times:  June: 7:30 pm, July: 7:00 pm, August 6:30 pm

Erie County Fair

Thursday, Aug. 17th - Sunday, Aug. 20th
$12; Aug. 9: Noon-10pm, Aug.10-20: 9am-10pm

The Erie County Fair, held annually is the largest fair of it’s kind in New York State, and the 3rd largest county fair in the nation.  It seeks to preserve and showcase our community’s agricultural traditions, talents, diversity and heritage.  Come view the live animals, and visit their caretakers.  Then head over to the James E. Strates Shows midway, with over 70 rides and 100 games.  Enjoy continual entertainment on a number of stages, then visit the food vendors, whose options range from the casual to the extraodinary!  Come for a day, or two, or more!
