Char-grilled
Hot dogs are meant to be char-grilled. Sahlen’s or Wardynski’s-brand dogs are hometown heroes, and they can be had--char-grilled and served with a slash of our own horseradish-tinged Weber’s mustard--at many area eateries, but most notably at Ted’s or Louie’s. Like wings and beer, a char-grilled hot dog is best paired with an ice cold loganberry-flavored drink. Made by a number of local manufacturers, this sweet, bright red beverage is quintessential Buffalo. Recently, Johnnie Ryan, a long-time area soda maker, has developed their own version of loganberry drink and offers it, along with a line of gourmet, pure sugar cane sodas, in slim glass bottles.
