New Immigrants
Europeans may have built our region, and the food traditions of their culture are an integral part of our area. But everyday, new immigrants arrive in Buffalo Niagara, bringing flavors of their own. Today, Buffalo’s West Side has become a bastion of ethnic flavors, boasting multiple Asian markets, a dozen Puerto Rican and Latin-flavored eateries and an increasing population of African, Asian and Middle Eastern peoples. Sample some of these foods at the Niagara Cafe, Lucy Ethiopian, Sun Authentic Burmese and Somali Star. We are pleased to be the new home of the many different cultures who have chosen to move to our city, and the foods, spices, seasonings and techniques they bring continue to shape and expand Buffalo’s foodways.
