Italian

SpaghettiThe sheer number of Italian restaurants and bakeries in the Buffalo region is staggering. Most of them specialize in classic Italian-American style cuisine. The sauce, meatballs, and pasta fagioli are considered the true determining factors when sorting the best from the rest. Most popular are Chef’s, Marco’s, Santisero’s, Salvatore’s and Frank’s Sunny Italy. More contemporary, high-end Italian experiences abound as well; popular choices include San Marco Ristorante, Lombardo’s, Trattoria Aroma, Romeo & Juliet’s, Sinatra’s and La Scala.

Cannoli

Few bakeries in Buffalo Niagara are not Italian. Many pride themselves on serving traditional, authentic Italian cookies and breads. Most popular of all may be the simple cannoli, which, when handmade and hand-filled, is the perfect end to any meal, especially when paired with a good espresso. Many consider Russ’s Bakery, Dolci, Caramici’s and DiCamillio’s to be the best cannoli craftsman in our area, though a real test may be to attend our area’s annual Italian Heritage Festival and sample one at each stand.
