Buffalo owns winter.   The region embraces living in a winter wonderland filled with skiing, pond hockey, ice skating, tubing, sledding, snowshoeing and ice fishing options.

Lake effect snows mean the slopes at Kissing Bridge and Holiday Valley are always ripe for schussing, while nearby Colden Tubing Company offers its own thrills. For cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, you won’t find better or more awe-inspiring trails. The Beaver Meadow Audubon Center (about 45 minutes away) offers snowshoe rentals and public access to an 8-mile network of scenic trails across the 324-acre preserve. Closer to home, Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora, Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park and the Tifft Nature Preserve on the Buffalo waterfront deliver spectacular vistas along popular trails; Chestnut Ridge also has toboggan chutes and one of the most impressive sled hills in the region!

Buffalo’s waterfront has turned into a year round attraction with an outdoor skating rink at Canalside four times the size of Rockefeller Center’s. Further up the Buffalo River, Riverworks is becoming a winter hotspot with weekly curling lessons and pond hockey tournaments. On the other side of downtown, Rotary Rink is a local favorite for free skating and inexpensive rentals.
