Buffalo Niagara is bookended by a pair of wine trails, thanks to the ideal microclimates and soil conditions that exist along Lake Erie, the Niagara Escarpment and Lake Ontario.

To the south, you’ll find the Lake Erie Wine Country, which is the largest grape growing region east of the Rockies.

To the north, it’s the Niagara Wine Trail, which has developed a reputation for producing world-class wines. Find out more about each category below, as well as a wine-themed weekend itinerary we devised; it was a tough job, but someone had to do it!

Buffalo is an under-the-radar destination for people in the know. Many compare it to the nearby culinary hub of Pittsburgh, but its edginess and proximity to grape-growing regions makes it more of an East Coast version of Oakland, California.
