Buffalo Named America’s Friendliest City

Bravo, Buffalo!

Buffalo has earned quite the national reputation, according to the readers of Travel + Leisure. Citing friendliness and food, underrated qualities and winter activities, fans of the Queen City of the Great Lakes have made their voices heard. Gardens, architecture, a refreshed waterfront, year-round fun and, of course, excellent eats play a huge role in Buffalo’s jump into the spotlight.

Following 2016’s #1 ranking as America’s Favorite City, this year, Buffalo edged out cities like Portland, San Francisco, Chicago, Nashville and Philadelphia to earn rankings in five Travel + Leisure poll categories. Most notably, Buffalo took the #1 spot as America’s Friendliest City.

“‘People smile at each other on the streets. We talk to strangers all the time and are just overall willing to help each other,’ said one local Buffalo resident … One reader recommended that visitors ask for directions — not because they’re lost, but because a local might just escort them to wherever they’re going,” Travel + Leisure writes.

In addition to America’s Friendliest City, Buffalo earned the adoration of Travel + Leisure readers in the following polls:

○ #3 America’s Favorite Cities

○ #2 America’s Most Underrated Cities

○ #3 America’s Favorite Cities for Food

○ #3 America’s Favorite Cities for a Ski Trip
