138 All-Star Boys Hockey Teams in Town to Compete
North American Prospects Showcase attracts 2760 players and coaches from around the world
BUFFALO, NY, June 24, 2010 -- Tomorrow, Friday, June 25 through this Sunday, June 27, a total of 138 elite boys hockey teams, featuring approximately 2760 players and coaches from across North America and as far away as Sweden, Finland, Norway and Russia, will descend on the Buffalo Niagara region for the North American Prospects Showcase.
This Super AAA (youth hockey’s highest classification) tournament features four age divisions, separated by players’ birth years: 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 through 2001.
In addition to playing for the tournament championship, athletes will be displaying their talent in front of scouts from a dozen prep schools and 20 NCAA Division I colleges, including Harvard University, the University of Vermont, Niagara University and Clarkson University.
Tournament games will take place at the following Western New York and Southern Ontario venues:
- Amherst Ice Center, 1615 Amherst Manor Drive, Williamsville, N.Y.
- Holiday Twin Rinks, 3465 Broadway St., Cheektowaga, N.Y.
- Niagara University’s Dwyer Arena, Niagara University, N.Y.
- Gale Center 4171 Fourth Ave., Niagara Falls, Ontario
- Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre, 240 St. Paul St. West, St. Catharines, Ontario
The games are open to the public and run from 8 a.m. to approximately 10:15 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Games on Sunday take place only at the Amherst Ice Center and Niagara University and run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. Single-day passes are $10 and three-day passes are $20.
In the week following the tournament, many of the athletes will remain in the region for a week-long skills camp, taught by college and NHL scouts.
The tournament is presented by Selects Hockey. Sponsors include New Era, Santora’s and Zetti’s. Additional support comes from the Buffalo Niagara Sports Commission (a subsidiary of the Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau), Hart Hotels and the Adam’s Mark Buffalo.
