Delaware Park, in the heart of Buffalo, is the city’s very own Central Park. The crown jewel of Buffalo’s Olmsted Park System, Delaware Park is filled with sights to see, things to do and places to eat. Here are nine suggestions of how to enjoy this great green space, from the Ring Road on the park’s eastern end to along Hoyt Lake on the western end:

1. Eat and drink at the park’s hot spot, The Terrace at Delaware Park. Overlooking the lake, the Terrace is one of Buffalo’s favorite patios. They have large dishes to share, snacks, salads, and even a raw bar that’s perfect for the summer with healthy, fresh seafood options like oysters, shrimp, ceviche, and crab.

2. Say hello to the bison at the Buffalo Zoo! The iconic animals that embody the spirit and resiliency of our city are on view from the park’s Ring Road, in the zoo’s southwest corner.

3. Find the stone pedestrian bridge on your walk through the park’s Rumsey Woods section; if you follow the main path from the rear of the Rose Garden, you can’t miss the stunning stone bridge surrounded by trees and vines.

4. Admire the public art at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, just across Lincoln Parkway from the Rose Garden. “Laura,” by sculptor Jaume Plensa, is one of the crown jewels of Buffalo’s world-renowned museum of modern and contemporary art.

5. Enjoy an afternoon by renting a flamingo boat in Hoyt Lake!  For just $15 for 30 minutes, you can make your way around the lake and relax out on the water.  The boats are available to rent from 12-8 pm every day during the summer months.

6. The Juicery is a summer stand that serves juices and great sandwiches! It’s perfect for a light, quick lunch to give you energy while you’re walking along Ring Road.

7. Shakespeare in Delaware Park is a classic Buffalo summer tradition that features two shows each season, running from June through August. Pack wine, cheeses, snacks, and grab your blankets and chairs for the occasion! You can see the shows from Tuesday through Sunday at 7:30pm.

8. The Parkside Community Association’s Movies in the Meadow (free on Friday nights) features kid-friendly movies throughout the summer at dusk (weather permitting).

9. Relax among the cherry blossom trees of the Japanese Garden, located behind the Buffalo History Museum. Peak season is typically late April and early May. But any time of year, it’s the perfect place for a moment of zen!
